Old Christmas Returned

Early music ensemble Passamezzo come to Warwick with a festive programme of music and readings, as part of their tour of a new programme Old Christmas Returned. They take the audience on a journey from Advent, through the Christmas seasons to its traditional end at Candlemas, and tell the story of how Christmas was celebrated, banned, and restored again in 17thCentury England. The ensemble play in Tudor costume and on period instruments, including Renaissance violin, lute, viols, recorders and voices. Their programme includes beautiful sacred pieces, dance tunes, and lively ballads telling of the traditions and capers that accompanied the festive period.
