Guys Cliffe Walled Garden

Guys Cliffe Walled Garden

The Walled Garden was originally part of the kitchen garden for Guys Cliffe House from at least the 1770s to the late 1940s. In recent years the garden had become totally overgrown & derelict. Clearance work on the site started in January 2014. Since then volunteers have contributed 7,000 hours of work to bring the garden back to life.

The aim is to restore the walls and glasshouses and return the site to a working Georgian/Victorian kitchen garden for the enjoyment and educational benefit of the community, and to give an insight into how the garden supported an important country house. The garden is listed as a Grade II site by English Heritage on the Register of Parks & Gardens of Special Historic Interest.

We are not yet able to open the garden to the general public except on event days or volunteer days. Visitors are welcome on our informal open days on the first and third Sundays of the months from April to October.

This year from April to October we are open to the public from 10am to 3.30pm on every Wednesday, Friday & Sunday, as well as Bank Holidays in April, May & August. Then through November & December we shall be open Fridays and Sundays.

Special Event Days in 2018, with catering, activities & information boards, will be:
Sat & Sun 15th & 16th September (Heritage weekend)

Entry is free (except on the charity NGS Day 21 July when there is a £3 charge for adults).

Donations are always very welcome to help keep the restoration project running.
